L-citrulline-DL-malic acid (2:1) is a chemical substance with the formula C16H32N6O11. Citrulline serves as a crucial precursor to arginine. In the stomach and intestines, arginase breaks down arginine into ornithine and urea. Arginine supplements undergo breakdown in the stomach and intestines before absorption into the bloodstream, leading to a rapid spike followed by a quick tapering off. Large amounts of arginine have been found to potentially cause digestive problems. Citrulline and citrulline malate supplements elevate plasma arginine levels over an extended period. Malic acid, a naturally occurring acid found in fruits, is present in this product at a 2:1 ratio of citrulline and malic acid.
